Forests are preserved for their enormous functions and ecosystem services that are vital to humankind. Forest soil is the foundation of all these services, which rely on the healthiness of forests. Soil degradation is one of the major disturbances that may severely affect the health of a forest. A healthy forest is one that has resilience to some level of stress in terms of its utilitarian and ecosystem values across a range of spatial scales. However, all forests are now facing a novel combination of stresses in the form of climate change, deforestation, and soil degradation. Soil degradations like extreme soil erosion and the loss of Indigenous seed banks cause severe damage to the intrinsic characteristics of forests, which may prevent the recovery of forests to a stable state. Monitoring and identifying the intensification of these multiple stresses is essential to maintaining a healthy forest in this climate change decade. But detecting the trajectory of forests during multiple stresses is a key scientific challenge that necessitates advanced and sophisticated mechanisms. Thus, it is critical to develop a scientific and sound methodology to evaluate the processes involved during the recovery process.
