Visiting a ‘Diverse Community’

Among other things, Bodo von BorriesBorries, Bodo von had used the time between his relocation from Berlin to West Germany and the establishment of the institute in Düsseldorf to complete work on a comprehensive monograph describing the state of the art in electron microscopy. In a certain sense, this publication was a final attempt to put all aspects of electron microscopy into a common context and to grasp them in their entirety—from the prehistory of the visualization of microscopic objects, to the beginnings and further development of electron-optical theory, the emergence of a field of instrumental and experimental practices, and the role of physiological implications and epistemological considerations.
