Using selected examples, it shows how religious furore was ignited through films. It addresses the specific mediality of film and scandalisation processes. It points to the situated nature of these processes and the multifaceted nature of the religious reception of films. It asks why some feel offended by their religious feelings while others enjoy watching the very same films or even praise them as a spiritual experience or as didactically valuable for teaching religion. Finally, it asks how religious agents and policy groups gain political profit through the scandalisation of films.
