Assessment of Urban and Rural Sustainability
摘要
Urban Sustainability aims to improve a city’s social, economic, and environmental conditions to ensure current and future residents’ quality of life and wellbeing. This chapter includes indicators targeting different aspects of sustainability. The urban area consists of (1) downtown (DT), a densely populated commercial/residential region; (2) urban, suburban, and exurban residential areas; and (3) peri-urban regions that dynamically interact with the rural areas. The rural regions have sparingly populated residential areas and agricultural farms. The urban and rural areas communicate and interact with each other and other telecoupled areas or countries that provide various products and services to and receive money and embedded toxins to the urban area and, to some extent, the rural areas.
