Chapter 2 explained why the study of terrestrial aeolian landforms that resemble those on Mars is an important way to understand these extraterrestrial landforms. Based on this explanation, we briefly introduced several terrestrial sites analogous to those on Mars based on the main ideas and site selection principles described in that chapter (Table 2.3). In this chapter, we will describe the analogues at several candidate sites and their significance for the study of Martian aeolian geomorphology in more detail. To facilitate the comparison, we will describe the main Mars-like aeolian geomorphic features and their developmental environments. These include the type and morphology of the aeolian landforms, their geological background, sediment supply, their climate, sometimes their hydrology.
