Some of the seismic inversion methods and algorithms discussed in the Chaps. 1 – 5 of Volume 2 have been extended or directly applied to multicomponent seismic data. In these chapters, it was shown that s-wave data besides p-wave data improves the accuracy of the inverted rock properties, especially Vs or SI, and ρ estimations. Further examples of p-wave and s-wave joint inversion are given in this chapter after an exposition on the converted shear wave recording in offshore applications and use of s-wave data in direct hydrocarbon identification (DHI) as a complementary to p-wave data in land and offshore seismic exploration.
