Lean Implementation Steps for a Way to Sustainable Green: A Real-Life Case Study
摘要
Manufacturers can contribute to environmental sustainability and green ecosystems by using their resources effectively and efficiently. For this purpose, it is necessary to develop new strategies and implement their applications. As one of the most effective approaches for green sustainability, lean is also an important and critical basis for establishing systems that are free from all kinds of waste. Lean transformation provides the opportunity to produce in a shorter time with the desired quality and at lower costs by using only the necessary resources without consuming any unnecessary resources. In this study, the value stream analysis and improvement steps carried out in a manufacturer company operating in the electronics sector, where the lean approach was decided to be applied due to high costs and quality problems experienced in the production of a new product, were summarized. As a result of the pilot application, it was observed that 58% savings were achieved from removing/reducing non-value adding activities. Considering the benefits of improving only one process with lean techniques, company officials decided to apply lean techniques to other processes and spread the application throughout the company. As an inference, it is possible to say that the benefits that even a single company will obtain from resource consumption will be an important step towards environmental sustainability.
