The blockchain technology has sparked innovations across various sectors, including finance, supply chain, mining, fashion industry, transportation, and industrial manufacturing systems. The literature along with the real-life blockchain applications showcase the potential for improving transparency, efficiency, traceability and security of operations. This study provides an overview of the use cases from various sectors that provide valuable tools for improving sustainability and positive impact on environmental management due to reductions in waste, reduction in carbon emission, improved supply chain traceability, and transparency enabling ethical sourcing. The study further focuses on the manufacturing industry as specific with integrated use of Internet of Things (IoT) together with the Blockchain technology to assess the future of smart factories. The environmental impact of blockchain applications, though minimised by the use of renewable energy resources and various mining algorithms, cannot be ignored and are assessed to be as the main indicator of the future environmental integrity of industrial applications.

摘要
