Artificial Intelligence in Pediatric Healthcare: Unique Considerations
摘要
As pediatric technologies evolve to promote the five aspects of the quintuple aim—patient care, population health, cost reduction, care team wellbeing, and health equity—it is important to understand the unique considerations required for careful, ethical, and thoughtful integration of AI into pediatric healthcare (Nundy S et al., The quintuple aim for health care improvement: a new imperative to advance health equity. Institute for Healthcare Improvement. https://www.ihi.org/resources/publications/quintuple-aim-health-care-improvement-new-imperative-advance-health-equity ). The implications of AI in caring for our youngest and most vulnerable patients are multifaceted. Efforts should balance the immense potential of AI with the sensitive nature of pediatric care, ensuring that innovation always serves the best interests of children, families, communities, and the teams who are privileged to serve them. This chapter reviews the integration of AI into pediatric population health, health literacy and delicate issues of health equity, access, and engagement, along with the potential for optimizing pediatric healthcare operations through AI-driven solutions, while carefully considering the pediatric-specific ethical, legal, and social implications that arise from implementing these advanced technologies.
