Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools hold the promise to enable clinicians to provide more efficient and effective healthcare. However, ensuring the safety and quality of AI tools is paramount. A standard process to select AI tools involves a multifaceted evaluation of the evidentiary basis of the tool, the impact of the use case to address clinical and operational problems, and alignment with organizational strategy. Ongoing monitoring of the efficacy of AI tools will ensure the provision of safe and high-quality care. Governance over these processes, with leadership and cross functional representation, can mitigate change management challenges and ensure improved clinical, financial, and/or operational outcomes using AI tools.
