Baqiutian Bridge is envisaged in a design applying the sustainability concept. The bridge is a deck arch with a braced twin arch ribs made by Ultra-high Performance Concrete (UHPC), saving about 30% material compared with conventional concrete ones. The ribs have no reinforcement and using manufactured sand in the mix to improve the durability of the arch ribs, and further reduce the consume of the natural resource. The arch rib has an effective span of 34 m, precast by three segments and connected together by dry joints, which can reduce the shrinkage stresses of UHPC structures and enhance the construction efficiency. In the bridge, the spandrel deck structure is directly connected with the two approach spans to form a continuous structure, which is extended to the approach slab behind the abutment, thus eliminating all the deck expansion joints in the whole bridge and making it a jointless bridge. Thus the bridge has no the problem that conventional jointed bridges will meet in service, i.e., damage, maintenance and replace of the deck expansion joints as well as their negative influence to the traffic and the structures.
