Crossing the Yangtze River at Guandao Gorge: Challenges and Solutions of the Kuizhou Bridge
摘要
To promote urban development and facilitate commuting for residents on both sides of the Yangtze River in Fengjie, China, the Kuizhou Bridge with a main span of 470 m is being built over the Guandao Gorge. We propose an innovative half-thougth network arch bridge, which realises the process from conceptualization to detailed design considerations. The original design is expected to overcome harsh construction conditions, providing an elegant, iconic, cost-effective solution, and complying with various technical criteria. The Kuizhou Bridge, upon being built, will offers a simple, lightweight, and transparent form that naturally spans the canyon scenery. This paper presents the major aspects of the bridge, including construction requirements and challenges, concept development process, structural design, construction methods.
