The Experience of Embodiment Scale
摘要
This chapter focuses on the experience of embodiment construct and its measurement through the Experience of Embodiment Scale. Anchored in a large-scale qualitative research program, the experience of embodiment construct and its associated quantitative scale provide a lens on the quality of experiences of living in the body that is broad in scope in terms of the range of experiences that it captures. The measure also suggests the continuity of experiences between negative and positive embodiment. Subscales of the experience of embodiment scale include: body connection and comfort, embodied adjustment, agency and functionality, attuned self care, resisting objectification, and experience and expression of sexual desire. Both the overall embodiment score and the subscales have good psychometric qualities. The Experience of Embodiment Scale, therefore, provides a new, integrated lens on the quality of the experience of embodied lives. In turn, it has implications to research and practice in the developing area of yoga and embodiment.
