We discuss a version of the z-model of microtubules with the possibility for large oscillations of the molecules which form the protofilament of the tubule. The obtained model equation is solved by means of the version SEsM(1, 1) of the Simple Equations Method. The focus of this study is on the application of mathematical methodology. We also mention the influence of several forces and potentials on the velocity and other characteristics of the obtained waves.
