Basic Concepts of Classical Logic

In this chapter we give a brief introduction to classical logic introducing the main (classical) logic gates acting on strings of bits. To represent the logical values of the bits, namely “0” and “1”, we exploit the same symbols used in the Dirac notations, that is \({\left \vert {0}\right \rangle }\) and \({\left \vert {1}\right \rangle }\) . Focusing on the single- and two-qubit reversible gates we arrive at the representation of the logic gates through the Pauli matrices, that will be useful throughout the rest of this book. The controlled not (CNOT) and the Hadamard gates are introduced as well.
