Today’s history of relations between Montenegro and the U.S. is best illustrated by the country’s move from NATO bombing target to NATO member. The U.S. holds the Montenegrin government accountable for achieving its stated goals of Montenegro’s full EU membership, active and credible membership in the NATO alliance, improving good neighbourly relations and strengthening Montenegro’s role in multilateral organisations. Montenegro is investing especially in its commitment to the development and continual improvement of its bilateral relations with the U.S.
