Mission (Im)possible: Big U.S. Brother Helps the Development of Bulgarian Democracy
摘要
This chapter reviews the evolution of U.S.-Bulgarian relations, emphasising the U.S.’s role in Bulgaria’s post-communist transition. The analysis highlights both positive and negative aspects, including U.S. cultural influence, defence cooperation and energy partnerships, while addressing the rise of anti-American sentiment driven by pro-Russian propaganda and media oligarch control. Also discussed here are challenges that hinder EU and U.S. support for Bulgaria’s democracy.
