Slovenians are historically linked to the U.S. The first Slovenian migrations to the U.S. date back to the nineteenth century, accelerating at the dawn of the twentieth century and after the Second World War. Before the war, the main reasons for migrations to the U.S. were economic, but they subsequently fragmented, with political motivation becoming more relevant. Given the position and particularities of Yugoslavia in the world system after 1945, and thus Slovenia, we can say that the country developed a specific dualism towards the U.S.: a positive attitude towards the country, the culture and the people, but a negative attitude towards American politics.
