Unpacking the social media representations of young people from South Auckland, this chapter explores the potential of young people as leaders through their engagement with Black Friars Theatre Company. The intention of Black Friars is to reframe negative perceptions of Pasifika communities. The role of witnessing is applied in this chapter as a form of public pedagogy and responsibility to see beyond prejudicial constructs held towards communities. The authors argue that the theatre work in this case is not to ‘fix’ youth, it is to present narratives to broader social audiences rather than focussing on individual change. The Black Friars work with schools to bring students together and draw upon their stories, creative storytelling preferences for example, hip hop, fagogo and skills in social media to fight to express their own identities as leaders, as warriors.
