This study conducted an empirical analysis of the perception of climate change in the Ohaozara and Abakaliki local government areas of Ebonyi State, Nigeria, focusing on its impact on the health and agriculture sectors. The motivation stemmed from the increasing vulnerability of these sectors to climatic changes, prompting the need to understand local perceptions and the associated effects. Data were collected through a survey of 405 household heads, with 202 respondents from Ohaozara and 203 from Abakaliki. Descriptive statistics were used to present respondents’ perspectives on climate change, with 80% acknowledging its occurrence, while 20% did not perceive any changes. To assess the impact of climate change, binary logistic regression was applied after controlling for collinearity using a contingency coefficient test. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between climate change and both the agricultural and health sectors, highlighting climate change as a key factor affecting crop productivity and public health in the region. The study concludes that climate change has a considerable impact on agriculture and health, calling for targeted interventions. It recommends government support in the form of loans, grants, and irrigation systems for farmers, along with financial backing for healthcare facilities and equipment. Additionally, educating households about climate change is critical for effective mitigation. This research underscores the importance of adaptive policies to safeguard vulnerable communities in Nigeria from the adverse effects of climate change.
