Curbing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations requires in-depth understanding of the existing synergies between carbon farming and carbon trading practices. Carbon emission reduction, agricultural, economic, and environmental sustainability can be simultaneously achieved by transforming scientific knowledge into profitable ventures that fully benefit farmers and practitioners. In this chapter, we explore the possibilities of translating scientific knowledge of carbon farming into carbon trading, emphasizing the driving forces and factors that lead to sustainable carbon markets. More precisely, this chapter aims to delineate how carbon farming and ecosystem-based carbon market initiatives might be utilized to incentivize farmers and investors to embrace carbon-sequestering strategies for reversing global climate change. Carbon farming practices can sequester a considerable amount of carbon, however, improvements are needed in carbon trading practices to establish fair carbon pricing, address prevailing disparities among buyers, sellers, and extension workers, and formulate persuasive action plans, permits and trading conditions. In essence, increased regulatory support and the development of protocols at local, regional, and national level are required to monetize the carbon farming practices, sustain their benefits, and increase their adoption rate.
