Landscape Three is a concept proposed in 1984 by American landscape researcher John Brinckerhoff Jackson, which understands landscape as a dynamic system of man-made spaces. It can thus do justice to contemporary everyday landscapes, which, according to Jackson, the classic western conception of Landscape Two (landscape as scenery) can no longer manage. Landscape Three has close ties to the landscape definition of the European Landscape Convention and can provide productive impulses for landscape design in the Anthropocene with its synthetic character.
