This article begins by providing an overview of various understandings of cultural landscapes as discussed in current literature. Thereafter, it is argued that cultural landscapes in the twenty-first century are to be primarily understood as globalized cultural landscapes. Furthermore, the author advocates for using cultural landscapes as objects of reflection and contemplation, concerning societal ways of life and economic practices to make them more sustainable.
