This article presents participant observation, a classic research approach in ethnology, as a flexible, methodologically plural, and (neo)pragmatic approach for social constructivist (urban) landscape research. Initially, the phenomenological features and history of this somewhat vague approach are discussed. Based on this flexibility, an approach for the analysis of (urban) landscape processes is being developed. The article concludes with a brief overview of corresponding works.
