The National Geological Survey and the Integration of Geology
摘要
In previous chapters, the consolidation of the Argentine Geological Survey was analyzed. In the mid-1970s, an ambitious plan was implemented for the systematic survey of the Patagonian Cordillera of the province of Chubut, which remained largely unknown. For almost a decade, a legion of young geologists studied the Andean and extra-Andean regions. The success obtained led to the complete survey of the southern Patagonian Andes, as well as the Fuegian Cordillera, in the following decade. This allowed not only an advance in the geological understanding of the region but with the implementation of the Patagonia Plan for geological mining exploration, important gold deposits were found in the Deseado Massif. These studies, together with the extra-Andean region, permitted the production of geological maps of the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz. The research carried out allowed a great advance in the knowledge of the Patagonian and Fuegian Andes. A fundamental milestone of these years has been Law 24.224 on Mining Reorganization of 1993, which established in its first chapter the National Program of Geological and Thematic Maps.
