This chapter concludes this book by recovering its main findings. By bridging the literatures on systems of government, civil–military relations, and Brazilian politics, the book explored cabinet militarization as a dependent variable and an independent variable, emphasizing its impact on democratic politics and defense policymaking. The chapter also reflects on the generalizability of the book’s argument regarding the causes of cabinet militarization by discussing shadow cases. Finally, the chapter offers directions for future research.
