This chapter introduces the concepts necessary to understand the hardware analysis techniques presented in the rest of this book. It starts with an introduction to the RISC-V ISA, which is used in most chapters of this book. Since formal methods provide the foundation for several approaches of this book, we also give a brief introduction to formal methods commonly used in EDA tools.
