The Future of Shakespeare Production in Malawi
摘要
The contemporary landscape of Shakespeare in Malawi is complex and polarised. In February 2024, via online interview, Stanley Kenani and I revisited the 2014 process of translating Romeo and Juliet for a Malawian audience. In The Future of Shakespeare Production in Malawi we further explored the text in relation to literature and colonialism in Malawi, and how the current Malawian education system is impacted by, and impacts in turn, how Shakespeare is situated in the country. Following this foregrounding, the chapter then examines aspects of how Malawian contemporary drama and theatre was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic; attention is paid to the current state of Shakespeare productions in Malawi.
