Shakespeare Productions in Malawi provides the first current (at the time of writing) and comprehensive timeline (and description where the information is available) of Shakespeare productions that have been performed and/or created in Malawi. The chapter is divided into sections by date; 1861–1964 pre-independence/colonialist period (from the arrival of the missionaries to the date Malawi ceded from Great Britain); 1964–1994 early post-independence (because although Malawi became independent from Great Britain in 1964, it was presided over through one-party rule under the dictator Hastings Banda until 1994); 1994–2020 post-democracy; and finally, 2021–2024 post-Covid.
