Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a multidisciplinary field of research and application that can handle tasks that usually require human intelligence—accordingly, it can also be applied to Cartography. Since a number of conventional cartographic methods described in this book often provide only partial, but not complete solutions (e.g., for generalization or label placement), there is a need for other mindsets.
