The lipid-based chronic disease (LBCD) model is a novel mechanism for clinical use in the management of patients with elevated lipid values. The four stages of LBCD are risk, pre-disease (abnormal lipoprotein synthesis), disease (dyslipidemia), and complications (e.g., atherosclerosis). The main drivers of LBCD are inherent, but lifestyle factors can play a significant role in the progression of LBCD. Certain inherent factors can lead to LBCD stage 3 since birth, and the focus will be to prevent progression to LBCD stage 4 in these patients. Lifestyle interventions can help mitigate the impact of LBCD and should be incorporated into all stages of LBCD. The LBCD model provides a practical guide for early lifestyle intervention and progression of the disease.

摘要
