South Africa applies practical macro (country-level) and micro (SME level) solutions to global warming for reducing the country’s carbon footprint. At macro-level, practical sustainability solutions considered in South Africa are multi-faceted and have different social and economic cost–benefit profiles. Micro-level practical solutions have tended to be in the area of green entrepreneurship initiatives. Lessons learnt from the case studies and secondary data analysis are that South Africa, the most industrialized country in Africa, has grown its industrial base from the widespread use of fossil fuels; that there is more than one practical method of creating a carbon-free environment, and that it should therefore transform from fossil fuels to practical micro and macro-level sustainable climate solutions that do not impede economic growth and development.

摘要
