Bio-Circular-Green Economic Model in Thailand: A Case of Upcycle Circular Economy Certification for Products
摘要
Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economy is a national framework for tackling sustainable consumption and production. In recent years, the use of upcycling strategies to address BCG policies has gained popularity among manufacturers. Such strategies aim at building a sustainable society by recirculating waste in a closed-loop system through R strategies. Upcycling, the creative modification of any product using waste materials to produce artifacts of equal or higher quality than the original components, has recently been promoted by many businesses as a strategy to reduce waste and add value. This chapter highlights the development of upcycling-related certifications for Thai products, including Green Upcycle and Upcycle Circular Economy certificates. A case of fashion items made from discarded dialysis solution bags is used to demonstrate how products are prepared and data are collected for applying these pioneering certifications.
