Why Geography Matters in Sustainability
摘要
There is no doubt that the world is changing all around us due to human impacts on natural and social systems. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to sustainability that have evolved over the last several decades have not halted many of the environmental and social declines we face as a planet. For example, even though we have significantly invested in green energy projects around the world, the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere continue to increase and we have never burned so much fossil fuel. As a result of these declines, this book refocuses sustainability around local and regional approaches to solving problems. It is divided into thirteen parts, with papers in each part focused on a particular region. It is our hope that the book provides a new conversation on how to truly make a change in our approach to sustainability in the coming decades.
