Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease, which has been studied for decades, but its pathogenesis is still not completely understood. Psoriasis is the result of interplay between genetic factors and external triggers, wherein the cutaneous microbiota may play a critical role by responding to external triggers and interacting with the host immune system. Many studies have highlighted a crucial role for microorganisms in the pathophysiology of chronic inflammatory skin disease, however, in the case of psoriasis, a direct link between the skin microbiome and psoriasis pathogenesis remains to be established.
