The media of the early twenty-first century is marked by deception, fraud, and propaganda, resulting in social-psychological obstacles hindering critical thinking. By looking at the social influence processes underlying this hyper-propaganda, I identify both individual and social policy approaches for increasing the opportunity for the critical thinking required in a democracy.
