Recently, blockchain applications have been in the spotlight, and their entry into the medical field has shown great promise in many aspects. For example, Blockchain allows for decentralisation, transparency, and anonymization, which can provide fail-proof data protection, identity and data verification, supply chain management, and interoperability between platforms in healthcare. The new data protection laws govern how researchers handle medical data. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was chosen as the basis for the data protection regulations. This paper aims to integrate GDPR into an Ethereum Blockchain network. The proposed application involves auditing and tracking medical researchers’ access to medical records in a medical data management system. The methodology is to utilise Smart Contracts to manage access to medical records in compliance with GDPR laws. The paper illustrates how to set up the environment of the Blockchain and build the Smart Contract to allow medical facilities that provide the data for medical researchers to track research details, requesters’ credentials, verifications of selected GDPR attributes, statuses of request acceptance, and their relevant metadata. The paper examines the Solidity code deployment on the Sepolia Ethereum test network. The implementation shows different scenarios for medical facilities and requesters.
