Digital Footprints of Cultural Heritage: Analysing Interest in the Camino De Santiago's Cultural Assets Through Google Trends
摘要
This study presents an analysis of the digital interest in the assets of cultural interest of the Camino de Santiago in Castilla y León through Google Trends. The results show a normalized and stable pattern of search interest over time, with significant seasonal fluctuations reflecting the impact of tourism and cultural events on public engagement. Spain emerges as the focal point of this digital interest, which also extends to European neighbours and across the Atlantic. While Google Trends serves as a valuable digital metric, complementing traditional survey methods and other digital tools, it is not without limitations. The reliance on third-party APIs, the potential for data truncation, and the absence of tools for disambiguating similar search terms can affect the reliability of the results. Additionally, the effectiveness of Google Trends may be limited in areas with low internet penetration or restricted freedom of expression. Despite these challenges, the insights provided are valuable for cultural heritage and tourism stakeholders, offering guidance for strategic promotional efforts that align with observed patterns of public interest.
