In this chapter, we address measurement uncertainties from direct measurements. We discuss measurement uncertainty concepts (standard, combined, and expanded uncertainties) and types of uncertainties (Types A and B). We present the sources of measurement uncertainty in several metrological areas (such as dimensional, thermal, mass, electric, pressure, and analytical) and how to evaluate them. The concepts of effective degrees of freedom and coverage factor are also presented.
