This chapter offers insight regarding the immigration process for Ingris, a 25-year-old woman who was born in the Dominican Republic that I interviewed as part of the Dominican oral history project. She had the joy of growing up with both her parents, also of Dominican nationality. Along with her sister and brother, Ingris gives her parents tremendous credit for raising them all so well. They have all completed school and have well-earned jobs. She owes a lot to her family and says that they are the “nucleus” from which she developed. In her story it is evident that she is a resilient person who pushed through life’s challenges to reach her educational and career aspirations.
