This chapter presents an interview that I conducted with Edery. In this chapter, Edery, an Afro-Dominican male, describes his experience as an immigrant from the Dominican Republic and the adversities and opportunities that he experiences in the Dominican Republic and in the United States. He brings us into his world as he goes through the process of losing his sight and eventually becoming blind. Despite the many cultural, financial, and health obstacles that he faced, Edery comes out a better person as a result. Edery does not let his blindless get in the way of obtaining the American Dream and reaching his career and life’s goals. He graduates from Bronx Community College and then attends a four-year college to study social work. He does not stop at the bachelor’s degree and earns a master’s degree in social work. Edery’s story is truly inspirational.
