Overview of the Inclusive Environment in a Public Higher Education Institution in PE—Brazil

Inclusive education is a fundamental human right and benefits society as a whole. This article aims to identify recommendations, related to the organizational structure, and assistive technologies (AT), for the formatting of the Accessibility and Inclusion Center for the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco (IFPE), aiming to propose a Welcoming Manual for students with specific needs and its object of study is the process of inclusion in three IFPE Service Centers for people with specific educational needs (NAPNE). The research is qualitative, and based on individual interviews. The methodology was formatted in four stages: Bibliographic survey, field study, data analysis, and development of the proposal. As a result, ten actions related to the Welcoming process for students with disabilities were identified, and 14 recommendations and strategies were proposed for teachers.
