Factors Underlying Mobile Phone Segmentation among Older Adults: Restart and Update
摘要
Technology usage and more specifically mobile phones usage is becoming a must for everyone in digital society. However, the aging population is facing some challenges in their usage of mobile phones. The aim of this paper is to identify the main factors that different authors use for mobile phone segmentation among older adults. The methodological approach used was rapid review. The review is based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, and it includes 11 papers that fit the aim of the study. Attitudes include views on benefits, perception, barriers, resistance, usefulness, acceptance, and expectations. Usage involves actual use, behaviour, frequency of functions used, typical users, and behavioural measures. In fact, half of the studies adopted a mixed approach, considering both attitudes and usage when categorizing the older adults. The review shows that the combination of two factors (attitudes and usage) is prevalent when it comes to segmentation of mobile phones among older adults. The recommendations are useful for creating further segmentations, tailored interventions, communication strategies and development and improvement of user-friendly interfaces, products and services for the health and safety of older adults.
