The article is devoted to the issue of teaching the elective discipline ‘Programming in R’ for bachelor of computer science in the period of distance learning, which has become relevant for Ukrainian students and teachers during the full-scale invasion. The educational process at universities must continue even if many participants are far from each other. Defining tools for statistical analysis and data visualisation arise as the IT industry becomes increasingly popular. The authors emphasise the need to include the R programming language in the educational process and describe its widespread use in large companies to solve various problems. A model of studying the discipline ‘Programming in R’ by a bachelor of computer science in the period of distance learning has been developed since this form of organisation and construction of the educational process provides other options for communication between participants, studying the educational material and its assimilation than full-time education. Thus, this model includes the following blocks: the purpose, objectives and stages of studying this discipline, types of activities and teaching methods, teaching aids, and the topics of content modules. When studying this discipline, using the described online compilers and the RStudio environment is suggested. In order to deepen their knowledge and skills in the R language, bachelors of computer science are encouraged to take one of the presented courses of their choice.
