Artificial Intelligence Perspectives and Vascular Disease

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that develops systems that can perform tasks that require human intelligence, such as speech recognition, learning, scheduling, and natural language. We will address two main perspectives on AI: one that simulates human thought and one that simulates human behavior. Several techniques and approaches used in AI are mentioned, including natural language processing (NLP), expert systems, machine learning, and deep neural networks (Deep Learning). Language models such as GPT-3 and GPT-4 developed by OpenAI, which are known for their advanced capabilities in generating coherent and contextually appropriate text, are highlighted. However, there are limitations of such models, such as the tendency to generate plausible but false answers or to produce ethically questionable outputs. Machine Learning is component of AI in which systems “learn” from experience without being explicitly programmed. This includes supervised machine learning, unsupervised, semi-supervised, and reinforcement learning. Expert systems, which leverage domain-specific knowledge to make decisions like those of a human expert, and Deep Learning, a technique based on deep neural networks that can tackle complex problems, are introduced. AI in the healthcare sector, convergence of technologies such as AI and Big Data, is leading to a revolution in digital health. Smartphones, thanks to advanced sensors and machine learning algorithms, can collect and analyze biometric data to monitor health and identify disorders or abnormalities early. It mentions a study conducted by Michael Snider that demonstrated the ability of an algorithm to detect 80% of COVID-19 cases before symptoms. The Real World Data and Evidence (RWD/E) in innovation of the healthcare sector is discussed. AI is used to understand patient behaviors, patient segmentation, and real-world data-driven understanding of the disease. We point out that the proactive approach to health could revolutionize the healthcare sector, improving people’s quality of life and creating new economic opportunities. However, it is important to ensure that innovation takes place while respecting patient privacy and well-being. Finally, there are ethical tools and approaches that can advance AI in the healthcare sector.
