Innovative, Non-antibiotic-Based Approaches to Oral Biofilm-Related Diseases
摘要
Pathogenic oral biofilm can cause various diseases such as dental caries, periodontitis, peri-implantitis, and other dental infections. Effectively inhibiting the growth of oral pathogens and biofilm formation is the basis for prevention and treatment of these oral diseases. Current modalities against pathogenic biofilms are limited to conventional, broad-spectrum antimicrobials that are not suitable for daily use or cause potential ecological imbalance. New strategies with antibiofilm properties have been developed in recent years. In this chapter, we reviewed and summarized recently developed novel non-antibiotic-based approaches, including nanotechnology, plant biotechnology and prebiotics modulation, for effective and precision biofilm control.
