Microorganisms are emerging as an enormous renewable reservoir of novel bioactive compounds. Microorganisms find applications as food and feed supplements, flavouring agents, enzymes, antibiotics and antimicrobial agents. There exist opportunities to explore the enormous wealth of microorganisms with a holistic approach to the benefit of humans as well as environmental health. In this chapter, an attempt was made to summarize their important contributions to human, animal health care, agricultural and industrial processes.
