This study investigates the opportunities for using machine translation (MT) and corpus-building activities to enhance language learning, focusing on the field of Translation Studies. The research explores the evolving landscape of English Language Teaching (ELT) within the context of global communication and underscores the growing significance of translation as English permeates diverse domains. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of preserving the functional value of minority languages, such as Armenian, while embracing the transformative potentials offered by MT. The goal of the pilot project reported here was to develop and test efficient methods for creating parallel Armenian-English language corpora by students in our Translation Studies program. The chapter details the project procedures followed and the resultant development of learner skills through alignment and error analysis exercises. It also discusses potential future directions for using MT in language and translation teaching. Results indicate that blending translation activities and ELT curricula offers such benefits as fostering intrinsic motivation and developing linguistic and digital competencies. The usage of bilingual parallel corpus methods equips students with the necessary knowledge and competencies for their future professions in translation and other language-related fields.
