Human-Centric Product Conceptual Design: A Process Model and Its Iterative Methodology

The conceptual design of products must better meet user requirements, especially as the trend toward customization becomes increasingly significant. Key challenges include clarifying design intentions, assisting designers in generating conceptual design schemes through appropriate iterative methods, and involving both designers and users in the design process to facilitate the evolution of design schemes. This chapter proposes a conceptual design process model that emphasizes user participation, grounded in the extraction of design factors and understanding of design intentions. Based on this model, a “mutual feedback” iterative design method is proposed to enable designers to adjust their design direction as needed, facilitating the generation of conceptual design schemes. This structured iterative approach, which integrates requirement feedback, scheme evolution, and knowledge configuration, promotes intelligent matching and optimization in the conceptual design stage.
