Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Beacon Device in Situations of Loss of Balance

Given the number of occurrences and the seriousness of accidents involving falls from a height in the construction industry, this research is justified by the need to investigate and develop mechanisms that contribute to better management of the height risk factor. The research aims to verify the viability of the equipment evaluated to identify the occurrence of a loss of balance and issue an alert to the person responsible for supervising the activity. The study used the W6 Smart Beacon device and the Node-Red program to assess its ability to identify loss of balance. To carry out this research, an experimental procedure was developed based on similar studies. In terms of identifying and alarming situations of loss of balance, the W6 Smart Beacon performed satisfactorily. All situations of loss of balance were identified, but an alarm was only raised in 21.67% of the cases where the individual was only stooping. Furthermore, whenever a loss of balance was identified, a notification was given instantly. Among the results, positioning the device on the waist proved to be advantageous. It can communicate effectively, and the balance monitoring data is better due to its proximity to the body’s center of gravity.
